I am joining CARE’s Walk In Her Shoes fundraising campaign March 3, 2018 (my 34th birthday!!!) – in solidarity with the journey taken each day by women and girls around the world -- specifically the often unsafe and difficult journey to collect clean water.
For the Walk on March 3rd in Atlanta Mike and I will be carrying our kids -- 42 pounds and 33 pounds on our back or shoulders. Our kids weigh less than the 20L (44 pounds) of water most women and girls carry on their head or back for miles and miles each day.
In the world’s poorest communities, women and girls bear the brunt of poverty.Often, they must walk up to four miles for basic needs like food, firewood, and clean water for their families. They also often have to find a safe place to poop -- not to mention challenges when they are menstruating... These treks can prevent girls from attending school, developing a career, and acquiring financial independence -- watch 30 second video at the bottom of this page.
Through Walk In Her Shoes, I am raising money to support CARE’s community-based efforts to improve education, healthand economic opportunityfor girls and women, which in turn helps their entire families emerge from poverty.
Please join me in supporting CARE’s work around the globe to save lives, defeat poverty and achieve social justice.
Thank you for contributing whatever you can and share this page with others so they too can have an opportunity to make a difference.
